Braun and Philips are two of the best recognized names in men’s shavers. There might be one or two other brands that pop into your head, but your main choices with quality shavers are going to be Braun and Philips. When shopping for a shaver it’s best to narrow down choices to two different shavers that have similar features, then make your final choice.

The Braun Shaver and the Philips Shaver are both over $175 and include a cleaning and charging station. Compare the features and capabilities on both of these shavers before making your final choice.

Which one will win?

Braun Series 7 790cc Cordless Electric Foil Shaver for Men with Clean and Charge Station

The Braun Series 7 790cc is a dark silver foil-style type of wet/dry electric shaver that is cordless and rechargeable. The kit includes the shaver and a black cleaning and charging station. Both items have blue buttons.

The Braun has been designed with the latest sonic technology and is 100% waterproof. This means that it can sense when it has reached a dense patch of hair on your skin and it can increase the power up to 1000 micro-vibrations per minute if required.

Part of the foil head has been designed with an ActiveLift trimmer which can lift and cut off hairs that are laying flat against the skin, which is common around the neck and chin regions.

The head is designed with 2X OptiFoil to cut hairs as short as 0.05 mm. This shaver promises to get closer than any other shaver product to deliver a clean smooth shave each time. This shaver also cuts shaving time in half to what other shavers can do, which is important for busy men on the go.

The head of this shaver has also been designed to be thin. This makes it fit into those hard-to-reach places, so you can still shave around the temples or under the nose. The shaver also goes in a straight line, never veering off, so you can be confident you won’t make any mistakes if you’re styling or shaping your beard.

You have the choice of five different shaving settings so you’re not just stuck with the same type of shave each time. You can choose from extra sensitive to intense modes. The base of the shaver has an LCD battery readout to let you know how much battery power is left, and when you need to clean it. The shaver will last for up to 50 minutes of cordless shaving time.

Inside the Braun Clean and Charge station is a 5-action system. Simply place the shaver head down, and it will clean, charge, and lubricate your shaver. You only have to press a button to get it started.

Philips Norelco Electric Rotary Shaver 9700 with Smart Clean System

The Philips Norelco 9700 is an all-black rotary shaver with an all-black cleaning and charging station. Philips claims that it’s the most advanced shaver in their line. This advanced system will capture 20% more hairs than other shavers, and is 30% closer. The kit also includes a deluxe black shaver case. Each of the circular shaving heads moves in eight different directions for a close shave. The shaver is cordless, rechargeable, and can be used both wet and dry.

The Philips Norelco will shave off hair that is less than one day old, or up to three days old. This shaver has three different personal comfort shaver settings. Choose from slow for a skin-friendly shave, medium for a thorough shave, or fast for a high-powered shave. You’ll be able to use this on every part of your body, from head to toe.

The shaver has a V-track precision blade system to capture every hair, no matter its length, whether it’s less than one day old, or up to three days of beard growth. It’s built with contour detect technology, so it’s three different heads will contour independently, in all eight directions. There is also a pop-up trimmer so you can get into tight spaces or do more precision trimming.

There is a digital status indicator for the battery level, a cleaning indicator, a battery low indicator, a replacement head, and a travel lock indicator.

The Smart Clean system will not only clean and charge your shaver, but also lubricate it, and dry it too. You’ll have sixty minutes of shaving time, or be able to have a quick charge of five minutes in case you’re in a hurry. It takes cartridges that are alcohol-free, and will clean out foam, gels, and hairs from your shaver.

Final Thoughts on Braun Versus Philips

According to ShaverGuru, both shavers are impressive and in the premium line in terms of costs. The Philips shaver does cost a bit more, so if you want additional features, such as an LED indicator for a new head, or a drying fan in the cleaning station, or a pop-up hair trimmer, the Philips might suit you best.

But if you don’t mind having fewer features and just want to focus on getting the job done, save a few dollars and buy the Braun.

Both shavers offer a clean close shave, and whether one gets closer than the other won’t really be seen with the naked eye. But it really comes down to whether you prefer a foil-style type of shaver, or a rotary-style type of shaver, as men are particular about this one option.

Which one will you choose?
